Glenwood BBQ cookoff
PANAMA CITY, FL - The fourth annual Glenwood BBQ Cook-Off and Red Velvet Cake Competition has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 20 at Tommy Oliver Stadium behind Bay High School.
Barbecue contestants come to the cookoff from hundreds of miles away in search of cash prizes. Community cake bakers also compete for cash and red-velvet bragging rights. Nonprofit organizations can set up information booths for free.
The alcohol-free family-oriented festival was postponed on May 23 because of thunderstorms. It is moving this year from the Glenwood Community Center to the stadium, and seating will be available in the bleachers. Festivalgoers can bring lawn chairs to sit closer to activities on the field.
New attractions this year include a youth talent show, judged by festivalgoers, with three age divisions: 11 and under, 12 to 15 and 16 to 18. There also will be DJs and an open talent show. Musical performers include the Hard Time Blues band, On Call and Leading Edge.
A torch walk for diversity will launch the festival at 9 a.m.. The route is from the Glenwood Community Center at 722 E. Ninth Court to the stadium at 440 E 13th St.
Presenting sponsors are the Glenwood Working Partnership, which is part of the Panama City Community Redevelopment Agency and the city's Department of Leisure Services.
