Annual shopping extravaganza Nov. 13-15
The theme for the annual shopping extravaganza at Boardwalk Beach Resort will be the focus of a new placement booth, where guests can see how the proceeds made at the event go back into the community.
“I think for a long time people just thought it was a fun shopping event,” said Michelle Lacewell, public relations chairman.
Lacewell explained that after the Junior Service League’s expenses of the event, such as printing flyers and invitations and renting the Boardwalk Beach Resort & Conference Center, all of the proceeds go directly into programs and services for the community.
A special preview part will be presented from 6-10 p.m. Nov. 12 by Maharaja’s Fine Jewelry & Gifts. Tickets are $50 to the party, which will include live music, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and a silent and live auction. Browse the silent auction full of treasures, and Scott Rossman will host a live auction. Goody bags for each guest will be provided by Maharaja’s.
With more than 70 merchants this year, it is easy to see why the focus has been on shopping. Guests can take advantage of the selection and early one-stop shopping, while merchants can kick off their sales for the holiday season.
“A lot of them will do pricing and deals that they wouldn’t do inside their stores,” Lacewell said.
Holly Fair, voted “Best of Bay” for a third year in a row, offers unique gifts, jewelry, accessories and holiday-themed items. Shopping is Friday through Sunday, with $5 general admission each day.
In addition, there is a Champagne Brunch from 8 to 10 a.m. Nov. 13. The special ticketed event, $25, presented by Gulf Coast Dermatology offers exclusive early admission to Holly Fair, while guests enjoy brunch, a fashion show and live entertainment.
“Brunch is a historic part of the event,” Lacewell said. New this year, the Blue Moose Bar and Grille, located in Boardwalk’s Convention Center, will be hosting Girls’ Night Out at Holly Fair from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 13. The Blue Moose will be offering drink specials for women shopping at Holly Fair.
“We wanted to encourage women to come in droves,” Lacewell said.
And for sports lovers, Blue Moose will host SEC Football Saturday on Nov. 14 from 1 to 8 p.m.
“You can shop and then go and check out the game,” Lacewell said.
In addition to Moose’s big screen TVs, it offers a full menu featuring fresh seafood and steaks, wings and chicken finger baskets, as well as a selection of beer and a full bar.
Lacewell said this should give the guys a good break from the shopping.
