PANAMA CITY— The chill in the air earlier this week will result in a strange meteorological event in downtown Panama City this weekend, where CityArts Cooperative is experiencing indoor art flurries and clouds of ideas.
The third annual “Flurry of Art” is an exhibit aimed at the gift giving season with locally produced art priced at $100 or less, including jewelry, pottery, holiday décor, paintings, drawings, photography and more. Each item is as unique as a snowflake, the artists say.
It’s taking place in conjunction with the Panama City Artists Association’s fourth annual “Cloud of Ideas,” featuring all kinds of local art priced at only $5. Each piece of artwork is packaged in clear plastic and strung from the ceiling to form a “cloud” through which visitors can wander and select favorites from the collection, all of which are 5 by 7 inches or smaller. All proceeds from the “Cloud” benefit PCA’s community art programs.
The selection of work in the “Cloud” includes watercolors, acrylics, drawings, prints and photographs — original artworks that make for perfect hostess gifts, a great little gift exchange item or that hard to find small gift for those you wish to remember during the holidays.
The public is invited to Meet the Artists from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, with light refreshments and 10 percent the cost of all art in the “Flurry” show. Another meet-the-artists reception will take place Dec. 15, just in time for last-minute Christmas shopping.
CityArts is open to the public for viewing the exhibits and purchasing artwork 1-6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday each week until Dec. 23. The co-op will be closed Dec. 24 to Jan. 1, 2013, and will reopen for regular hours Jan. 2.
CityArts is a dynamic community of visual, literary and performing artists that host a variety of exciting art events for the public throughout the year. The largest arts co-op in Northwest Florida, CityArts invites visitors to tour the artist’s studios, browse the gallery, learn about free art events, and sign up for art and dance classes.
The Panama City Artists group, founded in 2002, has a membership of more than 100 professional artists, teachers, hobbyists, enthusiasts and patrons based in the Panama City/Bay County region. They meet on the third Tuesday of each month at CityArts Cooperative. The meetings and programs are free and open to the public, and guests always are welcome.
