SANTA ROSA BEACH — The most difficult part of each visit to Fire is to decide what exactly to try.
At Fire, recently relocated from Grayton Beach, it is difficult to stick to the ideal meal from the last time, since it is very possible a new menu will be available. The restaurant offers a clean and fresh approach to food and wine, just one of the things that the food adventurists who like “different simple” cooking might count on.
While I was checking out the wine list, I let my friend choose the starters. He settled on the Chorizo Nachos with Jicama-Radish and Cilantro Crema, served in Wonton cups and the Mozzarella Medallions with Creole Tomato Sauce. I was secretly hoping for the Butternut Squash and Gulf Blue Crab Ravioli from the Small Plates, but I decided not to fight over it, since it was certain that his choice would be a delicious experience anyway.
For the main course, I chose the Pan Seared Skin-on Red Snapper with Cream Cheese Grits, Braised Brussels Sprout and Lemon Butter. My friend ordered the Boneless Double Cut Pork Chop with Mac and Cheese, Greens and Apple Butter-Mustard BBQ. After announcing our dinner decisions, we were surprised with homemade cornbread and butter. The entrées arrived just in time after we finished the last bites of the tasty treat. We could not resist sharing, and concluded the selection we made was outstanding.
For dessert, we chose the Sticky Toffee Cake. The “to die for” homemade creation was served with crème caramel, toasted pecans and vanilla ice-cream.
Fire offers a casual dining experience in a friendly and inviting atmosphere.
Fire moved to Grayton Beach and became part of the 30A community after Hurricane Katrina hit its original home in New Orleans. The Fire family decided to keep the same fresh Napa-style American cuisine and added some of the South Walton character to it.
After the location at Grayton Beach became too small, Fire had to move again. This time, its new home is in Gulf Place, at the corner of West County 30A and South County 393. In addition to the traditional dinner and Sunday brunch, Fire serves breakfast Monday to Saturday.
