PANAMA CITY BEACH — It all started with a carousel.

Now, five years after Jenny and Teddy Meeks purchased the 1964 carousel from the old Miracle Strip Amusement Park, they will enter the spring season with 11 rides at Miracle Strip at Pier Park.

Crews are busy installing two “new” vintage children’s rides, a 1949 Allen Herschell car ride and a 1969 boat ride, to add to the Meeks’ goal to recapture the days of the past.

“We consider ourselves a vintage ride park,” said park owner Teddy Meeks. “We brought in the carousel and it was just so well-received.”

The new rides will join the park’s nine other vintage rides, many of which were salvaged from the old Miracle Strip Amusement Park, which operated on the beach from 1963 to 2004.

Meeks said they hope to continue to add more vintage rides to their repertoire.

Miracle Strip at Pier Park will be open on weekends through the month of February and full time starting March 1. Meeks said they use the off-season to conduct maintenance on the rides, a continuing effort with attractions that are 40, 50 and 60 years old.
