PANAMA CITY BEACH — The 13th annual Thunder Beach Autumn Rally will continue to kick things up a notch with custom bikes — and girls to match.

Boardwalk Beach Resort hosts the first Official Thunder Beach Paint N’ Body Contest on Friday, when the top eight custom bike finalists will be revealed.

“It’s going to be a signature event; we’ve had an overwhelming response,” said Amy Harris, director of marketing at Boardwalk Beach Resort.

Boardwalk received 16 bike entries — from locals and out of area motorcycle enthusiasts — in the online contest, with the top three bikes receiving more than 400 votes each. Each of the finalists’ bikes will be unveiled, paired with a Miss Thunder Beach pageant girl custom painted in latex body paint to match.

Renowned artist and custom builder Robert Messenger of Messenger Hot Rods will be recreating the custom bike graphics on the models. The crowd will decide the hottest match.

“Audience participating will determine the voting. The winner will receive a three-night stay at Boardwalk,” Harris added. “Boardwalk also features the largest indoor and outdoor Vendor Village on the Gulf Coast. That sets us apart, because it is rain or shine. And judging from the last rally, that’s imperative.”

Vendors will include Dunlop, Twisted Leds, Candy Custom, Frogg Toggs, and for ladies, Spur Ranch Jewelry.

The military tribute bikes also will be back, and the new U.S. Coast Guard bike will be unveiled.

“It has just been completed and is making its first rally,” Harris said.

Music also is a big factor during Thunder Beach. The Bobby Friss Band will be headlining at Boardwalk, 9400 S Thomas Drive,on Friday and Saturday night.

Harley-Davidson of PCB will host its giant used bike tent sale at the dealership, 14700 Panama City Beach Parkway, along with music, vendors and the Official Thunder Beach Pageant Finale on Saturday. Vendors will include Gary’s Concessions, Hot Wheels Pizza, Kurakyn, Mustang Seats and Performance Machine.

Miss Harley-Davidson of Panama City Beach Elaina Arpino, an airplane mechanic at Tyndall Air Fore Base who was crowned at the Spring Rally, will be on site daily for the Meet and Greet.

“We will have a dozen Harley girls here every day,” said Marta Rose, director of marketing and events for Harley-Davidson of Panama City Beach.

The used bike tent sale has been going on at the dealership since last weekend’s Gulf Coast Jam.

“We’ve got every single bike the dealership has, new and used,” Rose said.

Harley-Davidson PCB is part of a five-part dealership, HD Florida, which includes Tallahassee, New Port Richey, Brandon and Tampa.

“Bikes are coming from all five dealerships,” said Rose, who added HD financial reps will be on hand. “We will have over 300 bikes here, and all are for sale. … We take anything on trade — cars, trucks, trailer, boat, anything we don’t have to feed, even diamonds and gold. We will buy a bike even if they don’t buy one.”

Parking at the dealership during Thunder Beach is bikes-only, but a free shuttle by a double-decker bus is provided back and forth from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with pick up at Target and Walmart in Pier Park.

“We do bike rentals daily, weekly and monthly, brand new and trike rentals,” said Rose, who added the shop also has a Dyno diagnostic computer in the back.

The dream vacation giveaway, which includes a five-day, four-night stay at a beachfront condo, free bike rental and $1,000 will be announced on stage during Saturday night’s Miss Thunder Beach finale at Harley-Davidson PCB.

Demo ride all the new 2014 HD Motorcycles, with the new Boom! Audio, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Saturday at Club La Vela, 8813 Thomas Drive.

“Demos have moved to Club La Vela, because we needed more space. We have a whole big lot and the course from La Vela east to St. Andrews State Park and back, a fun course right along the Gulf,” Rose said. “At our dealership, all our Harleys have a sign, ‘please sit on me.’ ”

Motorcycle drivers’ licenses are required for demo rides.

“Get a feel if you’ve not driven Harleys before. It’s that rumble; it’s that style,” Rose added.
