Anime for all ages

Japanese animation is a growing industry in our country and many are skeptical on what anime to watch due the content of the anime itself — some being childish, and others very adult in nature. Here there is a list of some anime titles that are entertaining and proper for specific age groups.
    For small children:
Kiki’s Delivery Service is a fantasy movie about 13-year-old witch-in-training, Kiki. In order to establish herself as a witch, she must leave home. She leaves with her black cat, Jiji, on her mother’s broom, soon finds a home with a baker and her husband, and becomes their delivery girl. In town she is noticed by a 13-year-old boy named Tombo and they become friends.
Digimon is an action anime that starts with a group of kids going to summer camp. They are taken to the digital world, where they are chosen to be the “Digi-Destined.” They each receive a digimon as a companion and protect the digiworld from being destroyed.

Princess Tutu is a “magical girl” anime centered on Duck, a young girl in ballet school. Duck lives a somewhat normal life until she discovers someone trying to steal memories from her friend Myuto. She is then able to transform into Princess Tutu. The story is based around fairy tales and famous ballets including Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake.”
    For Ages 10 – 13:
Dragon Ball Z is filled with aliens, dragons, extensive action sequences and, of course, wild hair. It follows Goku, a “saiyan” whose planet was destroyed when he was a baby. It goes through his life with the people he cares about and villains he must face. It is full of action and has comedy bits thrown in.
Fruits Basket is a comedy-drama based on the Chinese zodiac. Tohru Honda, a young girl living without parents, is offered housing by her school’s prince Yuki Sohma; she soon finds that Yuki and his family are cursed by the Chinese zodiac because when they are touched by a member of the opposite gender they are turned into one of the 12 zodiac animals. Tohru also finds that the family cat is included in the zodiac and it is a mystery as to why.

    For ages 14-18

Roger is soon accompanied by a cyborg named Dorothy; together they put the pieces back in place to figure out what happened to the city.
Rozen Maiden is a drama/fantasy in which junior high student Junko is paired with one of the beautiful Rozen Maiden Dolls, Shinku, who has powers and abilities given to her by her maker. He then kills both and names Victoria as his new vampire servant. She begins to work at the Hellsing Organization. This is a horror/action anime series and is very gory.
When They Cry is a drama/mystery/horror anime about 15-year-old Keiichi Maebara and his friends as they go through the horror in their village of Hinamizawa. They all experience paranoia and the feeling that no matter what they do they will be stalked and killed. Once a series of horror ends, it then begins anew and they must go through with the events again; however, every time detail differs and changes the course of events, though they all lead to the tragic ending in which the village is destroyed. None of them know they are experiencing these events over and over; they all can feel tragedy.

Gantz:Kei Kurono died helping people off the subway tracks; he then woke up in a room full of people only to find he had been brought back to life.
